Madhya Pradesh spinner Saransh Jain recorded career-best first-class figures of 7/40 on Monday to dismiss Bihar for 99 on the opening day of the third round of the Ranji Trophy 2026-27. The 33-year-old, who made his India Test debut against Sri Lanka in August, took seven wickets in the innings for the first time in his 59-match first-class career.

Nineteen matches began across India on Monday. Punjab chose to bat first against Hyderabad, while Tamil Nadu elected to bowl against Railways. Mumbai won the toss against Haryana at the Sharad Pawar Academy and elected to field.

Jain has taken 195 first-class wickets at an average of 28.23. The third round continues on Tuesday with defending champions Jammu and Kashmir facing Baroda and Tamil Nadu taking on Railways.

Jain's only prior India appearance came in the second Test against Sri Lanka last August, where he took three wickets. His domestic form suggests he remains a candidate for further red-ball opportunities.
