Afghanistan overtake England in ICC ODI rankings after tri-series triumph over Zimbabwe
Afghanistan moved ahead of England to seventh in the ODI rankings after winning the tri-series final.
Afghanistan rose to seventh in the latest ICC Men's ODI team rankings after defeating Zimbabwe by seven wickets in the tri-series final in Sharjah on October 23. They equalled their all-time high position first achieved in May 2025 with 94 points, while England slipped to eighth with 93 points.
Afghanistan bowled Zimbabwe out for 169, with Rashid Khan taking 3 for 41. Ibrahim Zadran remained unbeaten on 70 in the chase. India continue to lead the rankings with 115 points, followed by New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and Australia.
Afghanistan will next play Zimbabwe in a three-match T20I series and a two-match Test series, all in Sharjah.

Afghanistan's rise is built on a settled core that has now beaten full-member sides in bilateral series. The next step is consistency across longer tours rather than tri-series peaks.
