Dhruv Jurel will captain India A in the three unofficial Tests against New Zealand A starting later this month. The wicketkeeper-batter from Agra has been appointed skipper ahead of Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal and Washington Sundar.

Former India Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant is also included in the 15-member squad but his participation is subject to fitness. The first unofficial Test will be played at Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln from October 24 to 27.

Jasprit Bumrah was not included in the squad despite earlier reports that he would play a red-ball match to prepare for India's Test series in New Zealand.

CricHubb Take

Jurel's appointment over more experienced names shows selectors are prioritising red-ball leadership exposure for the next Test wicketkeeper rather than using the A series as a holding camp.
