Former India strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai said Rohit Sharma suffered a career-threatening hip injury during the 2017 Champions Trophy final. The injury required surgeries on his hamstring and hip flexor and remains a vulnerable area. Desai rejected claims that Rohit is lazy or does not train hard enough.

Desai explained that Rohit must complete a minimum of two strength training sessions per week to avoid further injury. Missing these sessions would make him a red flag and a ticking bomb, according to the former coach. Rohit's training focuses on strength, explosiveness and reactivity due to his specific injury history.

Desai compared Rohit's regime with Virat Kohli's, noting that Kohli requires less running work because his fitness comes from the ground. Rohit's training remains non-negotiable if he wants to continue playing at the highest level across formats.

CricHubb Take

Rohit's longevity at the top level rests on a narrow margin of consistent strength work. Without those two sessions each week his body would break down.
