Ravichandran Ashwin said Rohit Sharma is the obvious choice to captain Mumbai Indians in IPL 2027 after the franchise appointed Kieron Pollard as head coach. Ashwin said the team needs a leader who has the respect of the dressing room and the experience to fix issues before the mega auction. Mumbai finished ninth in IPL 2026.
Ashwin ruled out Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav as captaincy options. He also suggested Hardik Pandya is unlikely to remain captain given uncertainty over his future at the franchise. Rohit led Mumbai to all five IPL titles between 2013 and 2023.
Mumbai have reached the playoffs only once since Hardik Pandya took over as captain ahead of the 2024 season.
