Ayush Mhatre reveals Rohit Sharma's advice after U19 appointment
Mhatre sought Rohit's advice on leadership after his appointment and described the former captain as always available.
India U19 captain Ayush Mhatre called Rohit Sharma after his appointment and asked for help with captaincy. Rohit invited him home, walked him through how to handle a team, and spoke to his father for half an hour.
Mhatre, who made his IPL debut for Chennai Super Kings in 2025, led India to a sixth U19 World Cup title by beating England by 100 runs. He called Rohit humble and said he was always happy to talk.
Mhatre also remembered feeling nervous when he first met MS Dhoni during CSK trials and only asked for a photo on the final day.

Mhatre's story raises the question of whether Rohit will keep the same door open for the next India captain — and whether the current senior squad would do the same.
