MS Dhoni received Rs 15,000 as first T20 World Cup salary

Dhoni recalls receiving Rs 15,000 salary for India's first T20 World Cup victory in 2007.

MS Dhoni revealed he received Rs 15,000 as his first salary for an entire T20 World Cup season. India have won three T20 World Cups in 2007 under Dhoni, 2024 under Rohit Sharma, and 2026 under Suryakumar Yadav.

Dhoni said he spent the entire amount after receiving it for his participation in the inaugural tournament. The payment structure for international cricket has changed significantly since that first World Cup.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are expected to feature in India's upcoming ODI home series against West Indies starting September 27, 2026.

CricHubb Take

The salary figure reflects how much the economics of international cricket have changed in two decades. Current players receive substantially higher match fees and tournament payments for the same achievement.
