Abhishek credits Samson's character after India chase 199

Abhishek Sharma praised Samson's decision to bat at number three as India chased 199 in 13.2 overs.

Abhishek Sharma scored 113 off 38 balls as India chased down New Zealand's target of 199 in 13.2 overs in the third T20I. Sanju Samson batted at number three so Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could open the innings, and the pair put on a 133-run opening partnership. Sooryavanshi scored 45 off 19 balls before India won by six wickets.

Abhishek Sharma said Sanju Samson showed character by giving up his familiar batting position. He said the team showed selflessness and everyone is happy for everyone. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dropped from the playing XI for the fourth T20I, with Ishan Kishan returning after recovering from a groin injury.

India head coach Gautam Gambhir said established performers will always be ahead of someone new to the team. Captain Shreyas Iyer said Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has more years to get opportunities in international cricket.
