Abhishek Sharma wants to leave Sunrisers Hyderabad over captaincy decision
Abhishek Sharma is reportedly seeking a move away from Sunrisers Hyderabad after the franchise decided to hand captaincy to Ishan Kishan for the 2027 season.
Abhishek Sharma is reportedly unhappy with Sunrisers Hyderabad after the franchise decided to hand captaincy to Ishan Kishan for the 2027 IPL season. Times of India reported that the left-handed opener has had informal dialogue with Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings about a potential move. SRH CEO K Shanmugam denied the talks when contacted by the publication.
Pat Cummins is unlikely to feature in the 2027 IPL due to a packed international calendar, leaving Kishan as the frontrunner for the captaincy. Abhishek has been with SRH since 2019 and had captaincy ambitions within the franchise. Sources said he may even settle for a non-captaincy role if it means leaving Hyderabad.
Abhishek scored over 550 runs for SRH in IPL 2026 and played a key role in helping the team qualify for the playoffs. He remains the hottest property in the T20 circuit and will attract significant interest if he enters the IPL 2027 auction pool.
