Abishek Porel granted bail in alleged rape case

Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel was granted bail by a Chinsurah court on Friday after spending more than a month in jail. Porel, 22, was arrested on August 11 following a complaint filed by a medical student from Karnataka.

The complainant alleged that she and Porel had been in a relationship for three-and-a-half years and had planned to marry. She claimed he later denied the relationship, leading to charges under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections of the Information Technology Act.

Porel had denied the allegations. The Calcutta High Court had directed police to arrest him and seize his electronic devices. He is expected to be released on Friday.
