Zimbabwe name Bennett captain for Afghanistan Tests

Brian Bennett leads Zimbabwe in Sharjah after Richard Ngarava's injury, with Antum Naqvi set for a Test debut and Graeme Cremer recalled after nine years.

Zimbabwe named a 17-member squad for their two-Test series against Afghanistan in the UAE. Brian Bennett, 22, will captain the side after regular skipper Richard Ngarava was ruled out with injury. Zimbabwe elected to bat first in the opening match at Sharjah and reached 117 for one at lunch on day one.

Antum Naqvi earned a debut call-up after clearing eligibility requirements. The commercial pilot holds a first-class batting average of 60 and will bat in the middle order. Graeme Cremer also returned to the Test squad after nearly nine years away.

Rashid Khan will miss the series with a back injury, Afghanistan captain Rahmat Shah confirmed. The second Test begins on 13 November at the same venue.
