Ajinkya Rahane reveals Sachin Tendulkar expected him to play longer

Ajinkya Rahane announced his retirement from international cricket and the first call he got was from Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar told him he thought the batter would keep playing for longer.

Rahane told Tendulkar and everyone else who reached out that he was content with what he'd done and didn't want to push on just for the sake of it. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah all sent messages too.

Rahane finished with more than 8,000 runs across 85 Tests, 90 ODIs and 20 T20Is. His last match for India came in 2023 against the West Indies in Port of Spain. He'll play for Steve Waugh's Amsterdam Flames in the first season of The Hundred.
