BCCI backs Rohit Sharma for 2027 World Cup after Mumbai review meeting

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said on Thursday that Rohit Sharma remains in India’s ODI plans after a two-hour review meeting in Mumbai. The board discussed workload management and injury concerns but did not set a retirement timeline for the former captain.

Saikia praised Sharma’s recent form and called him an asset ahead of the 2027 World Cup. No discussions took place on chief selector Ajit Agarkar’s tenure, which ends in September. Agarkar was absent from the meeting attended by head coach Gautam Gambhir, captains Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer, and VVS Laxman.

Jonty Rhodes backed Sharma’s experience as a factor for the World Cup. The board also discussed India’s overseas results and preparations for next year’s tournament in South Africa.
