BCCI to decide on Ajit Agarkar's successor after October 4

BCCI will name a new chairman of the men's selection committee after Ajit Agarkar's contract ends on October 4.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said on Wednesday that the board will decide on the next chairman of the senior men's selection committee after Ajit Agarkar's three-year contract ends on October 4. Agarkar had informed the BCCI on September 18 that he does not wish to seek an extension.

Saikia confirmed the board has sufficient time until October 4 and will announce any decision in the public domain once it is made. Agarkar took over the role in July 2023, succeeding Chetan Sharma. India's T20 World Cup triumph in 2024 and Champions Trophy title in 2025 came under his watch.

The next chairman will inherit a team preparing for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Saikia also expressed hope that India's men's team can emulate the women's side, which won gold at the Asian Games in Japan.
