Akash Deep set to regain fitness for New Zealand Tests
Akash Deep is expected to be fit for India's Test series in New Zealand after bowling 15 overs daily at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
Bengal fast bowler Akash Deep is expected to regain fitness in time for India's two-Test series in New Zealand. The 10-Test veteran has not played a competitive match since February 2026 and is currently at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence, bowling 15 overs daily with the red ball.
Deep impressed during last year's Test series against England, taking 13 wickets in three matches including a 10-wicket haul at Edgbaston. He has 28 wickets from 10 Tests overall. The BCCI has shortlisted five fast bowlers for the New Zealand tour: Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar and Akash Deep.
His participation in the Irani Cup against Jammu and Kashmir starting October 1 remains subject to fitness clearance.
