Amol Muzumdar says India women moving towards specialist T20I squad

India women's head coach Amol Muzumdar said the team is progressing towards a dedicated T20I squad. He spoke at an event organised by the Sports Journalists' Association of Mumbai on Saturday. Muzumdar praised the talent emerging from the Centre of Excellence U-15 and U-19 camps.

He noted that the next generation understands nutrition, fitness, fielding and athleticism at a higher level than previous groups. Smriti Mandhana was appointed all-format captain on October 6 and led the side to 3-0 white-ball series wins against Zimbabwe. India also defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the 2025 ODI World Cup final.

Muzumdar said he enjoyed a positive working relationship with former captain Harmanpreet Kaur. The team will next prepare for the T20I World Cup cycle with the new squad structure in mind.
