Anaya Bangar urges BCCI to allow transgender players in women's cricket
Anaya Bangar asked the BCCI to follow Cricket Australia's transgender player policy after receiving clearance to compete in Australia.
Transgender cricketer Anaya Bangar has called on the BCCI to adopt a policy similar to Cricket Australia's after receiving clearance to compete in elite women's cricket in Australia from March 2027. The 25-year-old was approved under Cricket Australia's transgender and gender-diverse player policy in August.
Bangar, daughter of former India cricketer Sanjay Bangar, said she hopes the BCCI will create a pathway for transgender athletes. She approached the board in 2025 seeking clarity on eligibility criteria but has not received a response.
Cricket Australia's policy requires players to maintain serum testosterone levels below 10 nmol/L for at least 12 months. Bangar will be eligible for Premier Cricket competitions immediately while awaiting elite-level clearance.
