Anrich Nortje claimed two wickets on his Test return as Australia reached 187 for 6 on day one of the first Test in Durban.

Anrich Nortje took two wickets on his Test return as Australia finished day one of the first Test against South Africa on 187 for 6 at Kingsmead in Durban on Friday. The right-arm fast bowler claimed Alex Carey and Beau Webster to leave the visitors at 124 for 6 after they had recovered from an early collapse.

Matt Renshaw remained unbeaten on 46 while Pat Cummins was not out on 33 in an unbroken seventh-wicket stand of 63. Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder each took two wickets as South Africa's seam attack shared the damage equally.

Nortje had not played a Test since March 2023 and replaced the injured Kagiso Rabada in the side. Australia captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat first.
