Ashwin backs uncapped off-spinner Saransh Jain for Sri Lanka Test debut

R Ashwin endorsed uncapped off-spinner Saransh Jain for a potential India Test debut against Sri Lanka. Jain was added to the squad after Washington Sundar suffered an injury during the England tour.

Ashwin praised Jain's attacking style of off-spin bowling and said he rates the Madhya Pradesh player highly. He noted the stiff competition for places in India's spin department but said Jain has earned his opportunity.

India named a 15-member squad for the two-Test series. Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan's availability remains subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI.
