Ashwin calls Jaiswal ODI snub very unfair and unfortunate
Ravichandran Ashwin said leaving Yashasvi Jaiswal out of the New Zealand ODI squad is very unfair given Shubman Gill's rest.
Ravichandran Ashwin criticised the BCCI selection committee for excluding Yashasvi Jaiswal from India's ODI squad against New Zealand. The former spinner said the decision is very unfair and unfortunate, particularly with Shubman Gill rested for the final two matches. Ashwin warned that missing international cricket for four months could ruin the young batter's confidence.
Jaiswal has not featured in limited-overs cricket for India since scoring two centuries in his last three ODIs. The BCCI announced two separate squads for the five-match series, with Gill, KL Rahul, Anshul Kamboj and Prasidh Krishna leaving after the first three ODIs. Ravindra Jadeja was dropped from the squad and replaced by Axar Patel.
Ashwin suggested selectors could have spoken directly to Jaiswal about playing the final two ODIs. He called Jaiswal a precious talent whose development requires active support from the team management.
