Marsh and Carey led Australia's batting effort while Bartlett and Zampa restricted South Africa's chase before rain ended the contest.

Australia avoided a 3-0 clean sweep against South Africa after winning a rain-affected third and final ODI by 45 runs via the DLS Method on Wednesday in Potchefstroom. South Africa finished on 145 for 4 in 28 overs when rain arrived at 8.30pm local time.

Australia had posted 322 for 9, built around captain Mitchell Marsh's third successive half-century and Alex Carey's 74 off 88 balls. Xavier Bartlett took two wickets with the new ball while Adam Zampa claimed two scalps with his leg-spin.

South Africa made five changes with Temba Bavuma and David Miller rested ahead of the Test series. Quinton de Kock fell for a five-ball duck and Aiden Markram was lbw for 15 as the hosts slipped to 30 for 2. Ryan Rickelton remained unbeaten on 71 but lacked support before the rain.
