Siddhesh Lad says Yashasvi Jaiswal is trying hard to keep wickets for Mumbai

Lad says Jaiswal is working on keeping for Mumbai or India but admits he has no clarity on the opener's long-term intentions.

Mumbai captain Siddhesh Lad said Yashasvi Jaiswal is practising wicketkeeping because he wants to add another dimension to his game. Jaiswal was seen donning the gloves during Mumbai's practice sessions ahead of the Ranji Trophy season. Lad said he heard directly from Jaiswal that the opener is aiming to keep wickets for Mumbai or potentially for the Indian team.

Jaiswal will be available for Mumbai's Ranji Trophy opener against Chandigarh at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. The 24-year-old has previously worked on his leg-spin, and Lad noted that Jaiswal has kept wicket for around 10 overs during one of Mumbai's practice matches. Lad added that Jaiswal's experience will benefit a relatively young Mumbai squad.

The team will be without former captain Shardul Thakur, while former skipper Ajinkya Rahane has retired from all forms of cricket ahead of the campaign. Jaiswal will not be available from the second game onwards due to his national commitments.
