BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia explains VVS Laxman's role in selection meetings

Devajit Saikia said VVS Laxman will attend all senior men's selection meetings to prevent fitness miscommunication.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said VVS Laxman will attend all future senior men's selection meetings to avoid miscommunication between the Centre of Excellence and selectors about player fitness. The decision was taken during a review meeting in Mumbai last month.

Laxman attended Tuesday's meeting in Guwahati where India squads were picked for the New Zealand T20I series and India A red-ball matches. Saikia said the CoE head has complete information about player injuries and his presence ensures selectors receive accurate fitness updates.

The arrangement addresses recurring problems where players were named in squads only to be later withdrawn due to fitness concerns. It remains unclear whether Laxman will also attend women's selection meetings.
