BCCI tells Sooryavanshi to build career like Sachin Tendulkar
BCCI wants Sooryavanshi to build a long-term career rather than become a one-year wonder.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the board wants young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and other emerging prospects to build long and successful careers like legendary India batter Sachin Tendulkar. The board is monitoring his development after his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals and early India T20I appearances.
Officials want to build a sustainable international career rather than rush him through every format. Sooryavanshi scored 92 and 40 to help East Zone reach the Duleep Trophy final after a 13-year gap. His participation in the final depends on Gautam Gambhir's assessment of his workload and readiness for red-ball cricket.
The BCCI has told senior players to feature in domestic cricket while Gambhir decides whether the 15-year-old plays. The board is also mentoring a broader pool of young players at the Centre of Excellence.
