Sairaj Bahutule helped India win 2023 Asian Games cricket gold

The domestic stalwart who played two Tests is now India's spin bowling coach after guiding the side to Asian Games gold.

Sairaj Bahutule served as spin bowling coach when India won the men's cricket gold at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. The former Mumbai leg-spinner picked up 630 first-class wickets across 188 matches for Mumbai, Vidarbha and Assam during an 18-season domestic career. He scored more than 6,100 first-class runs and made nine centuries.

Bahutule played only two Tests and eight ODIs between 1997 and 2003 because Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh occupied the national spinner roles. He later coached Bengal, Gujarat and Vidarbha before joining the National Cricket Academy and Rajasthan Royals as spin bowling coach.

Bahutule worked with India's bowling unit under interim coach VVS Laxman at the Asian Games and now works alongside Gautam Gambhir as the national team's spin bowling coach.
