Bedingham backs Rabada return ahead of second Test against Australia

Bedingham says Rabada's return gives South Africa a chance to level the series after the Kingsmead defeat.

David Bedingham said Kagiso Rabada's return strengthens South Africa ahead of the second Test against Australia at St George's Park on Sunday. Rabada missed the first Test at Kingsmead with a hamstring injury as South Africa lost by 214 runs. Bedingham cited Rabada's nine-wicket haul in last year's World Test Championship final as evidence of his impact.

The 31-year-old has taken 58 wickets in 11 Tests against Australia at an average of 21.39. He previously claimed 23 wickets in four Tests during the 2018 series in South Africa. Bedingham said the fast bowler is sharp again and ready to lead the attack.

South Africa will decide their final XI on Sunday with rain forecast for the opening day. Aiden Markram missed Friday's training session, raising doubts over his availability. The Proteas trail the series 1-0.
