Bharat Arun questions BCCI decision on Mohammed Shami
Bharat Arun believes BCCI selectors prematurely dropped Mohammed Shami, despite his consistent performance and durability in red-ball cricket.
Former India bowling coach Bharat Arun questioned the BCCI selectors' decision to exclude Mohammed Shami from the national team despite his consistent performances. The 36-year-old seamer is set to play his 100th first-class match in the Duleep Trophy final but has not played for India since the Champions Trophy final last year.
Arun said selectors should not have closed the door on Shami given his durability and ability to perform in red-ball cricket. The pacer has played 64 matches for India, 23 for Bengal, seven for India A and five for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy.
Shami described the milestone of reaching 100 first-class matches as a proud and special moment. His exclusion has prompted debate about selection criteria and the balance between current form and past achievements in Indian cricket.
