Bhuvneshwar Kumar recalled to India T20I squad after four years
Bhuvneshwar Kumar returns to India's T20I squad after four years following strong IPL 2026 performances with RCB; Bumrah rested for New Zealand series.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been recalled to India's T20I squad for the five-match series against New Zealand after a gap of over four years. The 36-year-old last played for India in a T20I against New Zealand in November 2022. Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the tour.
Kumar took 28 wickets in IPL 2026 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, finishing one behind Kagiso Rabada in the race for the Purple Cap. He was particularly effective in the powerplay, claiming 17 wickets in 34 overs at an economy of 6.94. The recall comes in the first squad named since Ajit Agarkar's exit as chief selector.
India will play five T20Is from October 22 to November 1 in New Zealand, followed by five ODIs and two Tests. Kumar said he is ready to play ODI cricket again and believes his body can handle the load. His selection raises the possibility of a Bumrah-Kumar combination for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
