Bhuvneshwar Kumar's recall signals shift toward experienced swing bowlers
Bhuvneshwar Kumar's return after four years reflects a deliberate shift toward proven swing bowlers who can control multiple phases of T20 innings.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar's selection for India's five-match T20I series in New Zealand marks the first squad announced since Ajit Agarkar's exit as chief selector. The 36-year-old finished IPL 2026 with 28 wickets at an economy of 7.95 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the best figures by an Indian pacer, after technical adjustments restored his outswing and improved his strength.
His recall comes with Jasprit Bumrah rested and Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav still developing, giving India an experienced option who can bowl powerplay, middle overs and death. Former selector Rudra Pratap Singh pushed his case after Agarkar's departure, arguing the absence of proven swing options left the attack vulnerable.
Bhuvneshwar last played for India in November 2022. His return gives selectors a proven performer who can mentor younger pacers and provide control across phases during a period when India's fast-bowling depth remains uncertain.
