Nabi call-up vs Shami omission: India's rigid stance exposed

India picked Auqib Nabi to replace injured Jasprit Bumrah in the Sri Lanka Test squad, passing over Mohammed Shami despite a strong domestic season.

Jasprit Bumrah's knee injury—picked up during last month's ODI series—knocked him out of India's two-match Test tour to Sri Lanka. In his place, India named Auqib Nabi, a 29-year-old pacer from Jammu and Kashmir who's taken 104 Ranji wickets over two seasons and six more for India A in Sri Lanka itself.

The call leaves Mohammed Shami on the sidelines. Shami's had a strong domestic season and carries Test pedigree, but India's selectors have made it clear they're building for depth across cycles rather than plugging gaps with proven names. Nabi becomes the primary swing and seam option in the pace attack for this tour.
