Chetan Sharma urges BCCI to prepare supportive pitches for bowlers
Sharma wants the BCCI to create balanced wickets that give bowlers a fair chance in international matches.
Former India chief selector Chetan Sharma called on the BCCI to prepare balanced wickets that support bowlers in international cricket. His comments followed the India-West Indies T20I series, where three of the first four matches produced 200-plus totals and the second T20I saw India post 249 for five before West Indies chased the target with nine balls remaining.
Sharma acknowledged that spectators enjoy boundaries and sixes but warned that bowlers need supportive conditions to remain competitive. He said the BCCI provides such pitches in domestic cricket and should extend the same approach to international matches to avoid one-sided contests.
West Indies levelled the series 2-2 in Hyderabad after Shai Hope's unbeaten century and Keemo Paul's five-wicket haul helped them defend 247. India fell 24 runs short despite Sanju Samson's 56 off 23 balls. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been added to the squad for the fifth T20I after Arshdeep Singh suffered a shoulder injury.
