Chinmay Sutar scored an unbeaten 400 for Mizoram against Nagaland in a Ranji Trophy Plate match at Sovima on Monday. He faced 517 balls and hit 46 fours and seven sixes before Mizoram declared at 581 for 9. Sutar became only the second Indian to score 400 in first-class cricket, joining Bhausaheb Nimbalkar who made 443 not out for Maharashtra in 1948-49.
The 29-year-old, playing only his second first-class match, went past Prithvi Shaw's 379 to record the second-highest score in Ranji Trophy history. He added 190 runs for the tenth wicket with Lalrempuia Chhakchhuak, the third-highest last-wicket partnership in the competition. Nagaland reached 50 for 1 in reply.
Sutar made his Ranji debut last week and had scored 35 and 99 in his first match. He played one Vijay Hazare Trophy match for Mumbai last season.
