Cricket Australia approves sale of Melbourne Renegades licence

Cricket Australia confirmed private investment in the Big Bash League from 2027-28, starting with the full sale of the Melbourne Renegades licence. The 2026-27 season won't be affected.

Other clubs can follow under a self-determination model, each deciding whether to bring in private money. CA said the move is meant to boost commercial revenue while keeping the league's competitive balance and player pathways intact.

The Renegades become the first BBL franchise to move to private ownership under the new framework.
