Curator criticises flat pitches for young bowlers

Wankhede curator Ramesh Mhamunkar says flat ODI pitches are unfair to India's emerging bowlers.

Wankhede Stadium curator Ramesh Mhamunkar has criticised the preparation of flat pitches for ODIs, saying they offer no assistance to either seamers or spinners. He said domestic pitches retain moisture early and assist spinners later, but international white-ball surfaces have been instructed to favour batting. Mhamunkar added that even spinners had complained about lack of purchase.

India's young pacers conceded heavily on their recent ODI debuts against the West Indies, with Auqib Nabi and Anshul Kamboj both going wicketless. Mhamunkar said the conditions were unfair to bowlers trying to establish themselves at international level.
