Dean Elgar announces retirement from professional cricket at end of 2026 season
Dean Elgar will retire at the end of the 2026 season after scoring more than 5000 Test runs and captaining South Africa 13 times.
Former South Africa captain Dean Elgar will retire from professional cricket at the end of the 2026 season. The 39-year-old scored more than 5000 Test runs, including 14 centuries and 23 fifties, at an average of 37.65. He also captained South Africa in 13 Tests before spending his final three seasons with Essex in the County Championship. Elgar cited family commitments as the reason for his decision.
