Delhi Capitals sign 15-year-old Uma Kashvi for 10 lakh rupees
Delhi Capitals bought 15-year-old Karnataka all-rounder Uma Kashvi for her base price of 10 lakh rupees at the WPL mini-auction in Kochi. Kashvi, a right-handed batter and right-arm off-spinner, became the youngest player any franchise has purchased in the league's history at 15 years and 202 days old. The previous record was held by Deeya Yadav, who was bought at 16 years old.
The auction took place at the Grand Hyatt, Kochi, on October 28. Kashvi began training at an academy near her home at age seven and a half. Coach Arjun Dev said her selection surprised everyone, while head coach Jonathan Batty said Delhi Capitals had been monitoring her for some time.
Kashvi's WPL debut may be delayed by India Under-19 World Cup commitments in Bangladesh and Nepal. Delhi Capitals also bought Kiran Navgire for 75 lakh rupees, Nazma Khan for 10 lakh rupees and Kirstie Gordon for 10 lakh rupees. The franchise retained 13 players and spent 1.05 crore rupees at the auction, taking their total squad expenditure to 14.95 crore rupees.
