Diana Edulji urges Harmanpreet Kaur to step down as captain

Edulji wants Harmanpreet to hand over the captaincy to Mandhana before the next ODI World Cup cycle.

Former India player Diana Edulji called on Harmanpreet Kaur to relinquish the captaincy and allow Smriti Mandhana a sustained run in charge. Edulji said succession planning was essential ahead of the next ODI World Cup.

Edulji noted that Harmanpreet will be nearing 40 by the time the next World Cup arrives. She suggested Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma could be groomed as vice-captains during the transition.

Harmanpreet will lead India at the Asian Games starting September 18. Former captain Shantha Rangaswamy had earlier described a leadership change as overdue following the 2025 World Cup triumph.
