England's record 429 fails to stop Sri Lanka's 430 chase in Rawalpindi

Sri Lanka chased 430 to beat England in Rawalpindi, the second-highest successful ODI run chase on record.

Sri Lanka completed the second-highest successful chase in ODI history, reaching 430 for eight wickets to beat England by two wickets with one ball remaining in Rawalpindi on Thursday. England had posted 429 for four, powered by Harry Brook's 202 off 116 balls, the fastest double century in the format and the first by an England batter.

Pavan Rathnayake made 130 and Avishka Fernando 97 as Sri Lanka recovered from 24 for two. Dasun Shanaka struck 97 off 50 balls before Janith Liyanage finished unbeaten on 61 off 21 deliveries. Josh Tongue took two wickets in the final over, but Liyanage struck the winning six off the penultimate ball.

The result leaves England bottom of the tri-series table with two defeats. Pakistan leads after two wins and next faces England in Lahore on Sunday.
