England suffer 87-run defeat to Pakistan in ODI tri-series opener

England collapsed from 197 for five to 214 all out as Arafat Minhas took six for 40 to give Pakistan an 87-run win in the ODI tri-series opener.

England lost their opening match of the ODI tri-series in Pakistan by 87 runs after collapsing from 197 for five to 214 all out in Rawalpindi. Pakistan posted 302 for nine, with Arafat Minhas scoring 59 and Hasan Nawaz making 79 after both were dropped. Arafat then took six for 40 to finish England's chase.

Tom Banton made 57 and Ben Duckett 45 in an opening stand of 91, but Arafat removed both and later accounted for Harry Brook, Joe Root and the lower order. England lost their last five wickets for 17 runs.

Brook said the side had kept Pakistan to a below-par total but failed to build partnerships with the bat. England face Sri Lanka in their next match on Thursday.
