England won the first Test by an innings and 103 runs inside three days at Headingley as Root began his second spell as captain.

England wrapped up the first Test inside three days at Headingley, beating Pakistan by an innings and 103 runs. Jofra Archer, Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue took the wickets as Pakistan folded for 135 in their second innings.

Joe Root marked his return as Test captain with a decisive win. He said the side had been outstanding and that incoming coach Stephen Fleming had stayed in daily contact throughout the match.

England lead the series 1-0 with three Tests left.
