What does Mohammad Amir's British passport mean for PSL 2027?

Mohammad Amir will register as an overseas player for the 2027 Pakistan Super League after obtaining British citizenship. The 34-year-old confirmed the change on Wisden's The Scoop Extended, saying he would no longer count as a local player. Nottinghamshire signed him for the rest of the 2026 Vitality Blast once his British passport came through in June, and he joined Trent Rockets for The Hundred as a domestic player.

Amir played for Rawalpindi in PSL 2026 after they bought him for PKR 5.4 crore at the first player auction. His two-year contract covers both 2026 and 2027, yet the PCB hasn't said whether Rawalpindi can still keep him if his status changes. PSL rules allow teams to field five to seven foreign players depending on squad size, with a maximum of four overseas in the XI.

Rawalpindi must now fit Amir into their overseas quota if they want him back. The switch leaves franchise planning unsettled for next season.
