Gambhir calls for more contest between bat and ball after India chase 406

Gambhir questioned the flat pitch after India chased 406 in Guwahati. Gill's 223 led the eight-wicket win.

India coach Gautam Gambhir criticised the flat pitch at Guwahati after India chased down West Indies' 405 for seven to win the second ODI by eight wickets on Wednesday. Gambhir said the surface reduced the contest to batting only and left bowlers with little chance.

West Indies posted their highest-ever ODI total, with three centurions in the innings. Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 223 from 133 balls to lead the chase, while Rohit Sharma made 101. Gill reached his double century in 117 balls, the fastest in ODI history. India completed the chase with 39 balls remaining.

The result gave India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The third ODI is scheduled for October 3 in Mullanpur.
