Gautam Gambhir questions Guwahati pitch after 811 runs scored in second ODI

India coach Gautam Gambhir said the batting-friendly pitch in Guwahati was unfair on bowlers after his side completed the second-highest successful chase in ODI history on Wednesday. India overhauled West Indies' 405 for seven with an eight-wicket victory.

Gambhir said there needs to be more contest between bat and ball, and that young bowlers should not be judged solely by their figures on surfaces offering no assistance. He expressed sympathy for bowlers operating under fielding restrictions and two new balls.

Gambhir said India has limited time to settle on combinations ahead of the 2027 World Cup and will try different options until the Zimbabwe series. The third ODI is scheduled for New Chandigarh on Saturday.
