Gautam Gambhir says Guwahati pitch offered no contest between bat and ball

India head coach Gautam Gambhir criticised the batting-friendly conditions at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati after India's record chase in the second ODI against the West Indies. He said the surface created a contest between bat and bat rather than bat and ball.

West Indies posted 405 for seven before India chased the target with eight wickets and 39 balls to spare. Shubman Gill scored the fastest double century in ODI history, reaching 200 off 117 balls.

Gambhir said young bowlers needed conditions where they could work with the ball and that flat tracks were not fair on the bowling side. The third ODI will be played at the PCA Stadium in Mullanpur on Saturday.
