Gautam Gambhir says it is not fair on Shubman Gill to play without key players
Gambhir said the team wants Gill to have his best playing XI available as often as possible.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir said it is not fair on Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill to repeatedly play without several key players. Gill will be without Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan and Jasprit Bumrah for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies due to the Asian Games. Gambhir acknowledged that missing frontline players is not ideal preparation for the 2027 World Cup.
Gambhir noted that the Asian Games squad was selected long before the conflict arose. He added that the series gives opportunities to players such as Naman Dhir and Auqib Nabi. Gill will lead a 15-man ODI squad that includes Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja.
