Glenn Phillips disputes count of dropped catches after loss

Phillips credited India for chasing 226 but said New Zealand must take more middle-over wickets and tighten fielding.

New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips pushed back on questions about his side's fielding after India chased 226 in the first T20I at Christchurch. Phillips said only genuine dropped catches should be counted and questioned whether two of the four chances cited were catchable.

He acknowledged that New Zealand needed to take more wickets in the middle overs and string together dot balls to put India under sustained pressure. Phillips scored an unbeaten 82 off 40 balls but said execution of plans remained the key difference.

The second match is scheduled for Saturday at Hagley Oval, with India already 1-0 up in the five-match series.
