Harmanpreet Kaur steps down as India captain across formats

Harmanpreet Kaur stepped down as India captain after leading the team to their first global title, with Smriti Mandhana named as successor.

Harmanpreet Kaur has stepped down as India captain across all three formats after leading the team to their first global women's title at the 2025 50-over World Cup. Smriti Mandhana has been named as her successor. Harmanpreet captained India in five Tests, 51 ODIs and 155 T20Is. She led the side to Asian Games gold last month before announcing her decision. Mandhana has already captained the team in 18 T20Is and four ODIs during her time as deputy. The left-handed opener recently became the top run-scorer in women's international cricket with 18 centuries across formats. Harmanpreet said she had given everything to the team and believed it was now in a good place for the future.
