Harmanpreet Kaur steps down as India women's captain across all formats

Harmanpreet Kaur has stepped down as India's captain across all three formats after leading the side to its first 50-over World Cup title in 2025. The 37-year-old guided India to five Tests, 51 ODIs and 155 T20Is during her tenure.

Smriti Mandhana has been named her successor. The 30-year-old left-handed opener has already captained the team in 18 T20Is and four ODIs. She recently became the top run-scorer in women's international cricket and holds the record for most centuries across formats with 18.

Harmanpreet said the decision carries years of memories and emotions but leaves her with peace. She added that she will continue to play for the love of the game.
