Hazlewood takes career-best 6 for 49 as Australia win first Test by 214 runs
Josh Hazlewood's 6 for 49 helped Australia secure a 214-run win over South Africa in the first Test at Durban.
Josh Hazlewood claimed career-best figures of 6 for 49 as Australia beat South Africa by 214 runs in the first Test at Kingsmead in Durban. The result gave Australia a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
South Africa were bowled out for 206 chasing 421. Hazlewood finished with eight wickets across both innings — his six-wicket haul in the second took him past Brett Lee on Australia's all-time Test list and level with Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan. Matthew Renshaw chipped in with two second-innings wickets and had already made runs earlier in the match.
The victory moved Australia to the top of the World Test Championship table. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma acknowledged obvious gaps after his side's unbeaten run of 12 Tests came to an end. The second Test begins on October 17 in Gqeberha.
