India refuse Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi after women's team win
India's women's team skipped the official trophy presentation after beating Sri Lanka by 72 runs, citing solidarity with the men's team's stance from last year.
India's women's team refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi after beating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final in Dubai on Sunday. The presentation ceremony was delayed by nearly an hour while India conducted a separate medal ceremony on the sidelines.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the decision showed solidarity with the men's team stance from last year. He added that Naqvi rejected a proposal for ACC deputy chairman Khalid Al Zarooni to hand over the trophy, leaving India with no option but to skip the official ceremony.
Saikia confirmed the women's team won all matches convincingly and that planning remains focused on the 2026 T20 World Cup. Naqvi left the venue after presenting the runners-up cheque to Sri Lanka.
